Entrepreneurship in the Country

The fishing industry is economically very important in Denmark, since the country possesses a large merchant fleet . Main industrial activities are food-processing industry, chemical and machine industry, metal products, electronic and transport equipment, brewing industry, paper and wood industry. Tourism also plays a very important role.

Appointments are necessary.
Confirm appointments in writing.
Initial correspondence should be made to the company and not an individual.
Do not try to schedule meetings from mid June through mid August, as many Danes are on vacation.
You should arrive at meetings on time. The Danes you are meeting will be punctual.
Telephone immediately, if you will be detained more than 5 minutes.
Shake hands with everyone upon arriving and leaving. Handshakes should be very firm and rather short. Maintain eye contact while being introduced. Always shake hands with women first.
Business cards are exchanged. Your business card should have the physical address of your company and not a post office box.
Danes use their professional title and their surname. If someone does not have a professional title, use Herr (Mister), Fru (Misses) or Froken (Miss). Danes move to first names quickly. Nonetheless, wait to be invited before using someone's first name.
Business Negotiation

Send an agenda before the meeting and work from it without deviation.
Decisions are made after consulting with everyone involved.
Presentations should be well-organized and factual. Use facts, figures and charts to back up statements and conclusions.
Maintain eye contact while speaking.
There will be a minimal amount of small talk. Danes prefer to get down to business quickly.
Business communication is direct.

Geographical Characteristics

Denmark consists of the peninsula of Jutland (Jylland) and some 400 named island. Of these, 82 are inhabited, with the largest being Funen (Fyn) and Zealand (Sjælland).
Languages

Danish; also German and Inuit (Greenlandic dialect).
Short History

During the 8th-10th century, the Danes were known as Vikings, together with Norwegians and Swedes, who raided and conquered many parts of the world. They also excelled in trading along the coasts and rivers of Europe.

Today, Danes are proud of their social country and the welfare system, which offers the social support and social benefit for everybody. Denmark is a constitutional monarchy, regulated by the Constitution from 1953.

Credit Cards

Credit cards are accepted widely in Denmark: Visa, MasterCard–EuroCard, American Express, Diners Club. They are accepted in numerous hotels, restaurants and shops. Almost all petrol stations will accept credit cards.
Foreign Currency Exchange

Apart from the banks, foreign currency can be also exchanged in exchange offices, hotel receptions, tourist agencies, petrol stations and larger department stores.
Mobile Telecommunications

The country is almost entirely covered by mobile telephony signal, since the operators have concluded contracts with larger European and world operators. Mobile phones in the country are designed to function within the network of frequency bands 900 MHZ and 1800 MHZ. You can host in the following mobile networks: Sonofon, TDC Mobile, Telia, Telmore.
Anti Smoking Law

From August 15th 2007 smoking is banned in all public places. There are separated places for smokers; while in smaller establishments owners can decide, whether to allow smoking or not.
